Planning a Wedding at The Little Nell

One of the defining aspects of a wedding at The Little Nell is the ability to incorporate Aspen Mountain into the celebration itself. The venue offers settings both at the hotel and atop the mountain, including the Wedding Deck, Wedding Overlook, Sundeck, and Aspen Mountain Club, giving couples different options depending on the season and the experience they envision.

For summer and fall weddings, the Wedding Deck provides an open-air ceremony setting at the top of Aspen Mountain, reached by gondola from town. The Sundeck and Aspen Mountain Club can keep guests surrounded by the mountain landscape during cocktails, dinner, or the reception, while other spaces at the hotel offer alternatives closer to the base of the mountain.

That relationship between locations is important photographically. The mountain views can naturally establish the destination, but the property also offers quieter opportunities for first looks and portraits before the ceremony. I like having enough time to work with both the scale of the landscape and the couple's more personal moments, without turning the portrait portion of the day into a long photo session.

Season and timing matter here more than they would at a traditional ballroom venue. The Little Nell uses different mountaintop ceremony options across the seasons, and celebrations at the top of Aspen Mountain involve gondola access and transitions between spaces. Building those movements into the timeline helps the day feel relaxed and gives us time to photograph the changing mountain light without taking the couple away from their guests for too long.
