A Celebration of Colour & Culture at Rosewood Mayakoba

Photographing Shanya and Shiv’s three-day wedding at Rosewood Mayakoba meant stepping into a celebration that was constantly changing. Across the weekend, Indian traditions, fashion, music, family, and the landscape of Mexico’s Riviera Maya came together in a way that gave each event its own character while still feeling connected to the same story.

The celebration began with a relaxed welcome gathering by the pool, and I also had time with Shanya and Shiv for beach portraits. The following day brought the Sangeet, with colour, movement, music, and a completely different energy before we moved into the wedding day itself.

On the third day, we began with the details and getting ready before the first look and portraits around the resort. The ceremony and evening celebration then shifted the photographs again, moving from the quieter moments between Shanya, Shiv, and their families into the scale, colour, and energy of the wedding itself.

Fashion was an important part of the story. Shanya wore custom Sabyasachi throughout the celebrations, styled by Puja, with each look bringing its own personality to the setting. The richness of the textiles, craftsmanship, and colour created a striking contrast with the mangroves, waterways, gardens, and contemporary architecture of Rosewood Mayakoba.

SJS Events brought the three days together with a clear creative vision, while Sterling Experiences transformed each setting through florals and production that shifted naturally from vibrant daytime celebrations to more atmospheric evenings. With so many layers to photograph, I constantly moved between the scale of the design and the smaller moments within it.

Vogue India and Vogue Australia later published the wedding and my photographs. That recognition felt particularly connected to this celebration because fashion, culture, and personal expression were such an important part of what Shanya and Shiv created across the three days.
