Two Cultures, One Celebration at Weylin
Monica and Tom's wedding brought Indian traditions and a Western black-tie celebration together within the historic interiors of Weylin in Brooklyn. The gallery begins quietly, with details and a few moments of preparation, before moving into the color, ritual, and symbolism of the ceremony.
At the center of that part of the day was the mandap, surrounded by floral design and the elements of the Indian ceremony. Monica's Sabyasachi ensemble introduced another layer of craftsmanship and heritage, from the embroidery and jewelry to the rich color that appears throughout the photographs.
As the celebration moved into the reception, the visual language shifted. The warmer ceremony palette gave way to deeper reds, candlelight, darker interiors, and the scale of Weylin's domed rooms. I used wider frames when the architecture and design mattered to understanding the scene, then moved closer as the evening became more about conversation, movement, dancing, and the people around Monica and Tom.
That progression gives this gallery its rhythm: preparation, ceremony, tradition, portraits, and then an evening that grows increasingly energetic. The cultural details remain present throughout, but each part of the wedding has its own visual character. Monica and Tom became friends after the wedding, and we still keep in touch today, which gives these photographs personal meaning beyond the celebration itself.
